For those of you who would like to come to the mission field for short term or long term, please take the time to read through this page.

I praise God for causing you to be willing to give of your time to help out with bringing relief and the Good News to those who are less fortunate then you. Your choice to do so will bless others as well as you, because it is a pleasure to help the helpless. And I dare say, if you come with a pure and prayerful heart, it will rock your world to see what so many do without, things you thought were rights for everyone that lives.

There are a few things I would like to address right up front, so that there will be less confusion and all your time can be spent glorifying God, and nobody will stumble because of inconsistencies. Some of these things may not make sense to you, but please understand that things often work differently in other cultures.

In this culture people from the states are called “Mitiki’s,” so that is what I will call you here.

(1) Do not give money or goods directly to the people without first getting approval from the ministry.

Why? Because if done, they will think that when Mitiki’s come they bring money, therefore making good targets for robbers when future Mitiki’s come. And besides giving them a begger mindset, it often causes jealousy and dissension among their family, friends and neighbors, plus causes trouble for us in the long run.

(2) Do not wander off by yourself while you are in the mission field.
Why? Because, even though you are reasonably safe with our group, a lone Mitiki is at great risk.

(3) Ladies, do not wear clothing that is fitting for prostitutes. (Short shorts or dresses & low cut shirts)
Why? 1 Timothy 2:9 I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety… We want to be a shining light for Christ and not be a stumbling block for our brothers and sisters, or set ourselves up for disaster with those who seek after things that are not fitting. In this culture women wearing short shorts means they are available for guys to have. Also, in the tropics, bug bites and serious sunburn is what happens to fair skin that is exposed.

(4) Do not plan to come and build a house in a week.
Why? Because things don’t work the same here as they do in the states. Even though we try hard to get ready for you beforehand, building methods are different and take longer. And in our case, materials have to be hauled in from a long way, or for lumber, it has to be cut with a chainsaw and carried from the jungle on mens shoulders. If you come and help us with this in mind, we will appreciate your help and you will enjoy your time here.

(5) Do not plan to come to the mission field to have vacation.
Why? Because there is much work to be done in the mission field, and we don’t have time for free loaders. Even though you may not be running all the time, we will expect you to help with work.

If you do not abide by these rules, we will not be responsible for you safety, and we will arrange for you to go back home. I don’t say these things to be mean, but out of love so that we may be together in unity.

Instructions on preparing for your trip.

Second; Please plan ahead, preferably a couple month, because there are times that we do not have communication up the river, so it may be a while before we get your email.

After the date is arranged, you will need to buy your round trip ticket from your closest airport to Managua (MGA) airport on your choice of airlines that fly to Managua. Then you will need to buy your ticket from LaCosteña, the small plane from Managua to Waspam. They now have a website, http://www.lacostena.com.ni but it’s not very user friendly yet, and it costs $15.00 more from the website. You can also call them at (505) 2263-2142 from 8 to 6 CT and ask for someone who speaks english. They do have a few people that speak decent english, but be patient with them as they try to understand you.

The baggage limit on this little flight is 30 lbs. for 1 check bag, and 20 lbs. for a carry on. Anything over that will cost $1.25 @ lb. Please figure this in with your traveling plans. Also if the plane gets a little to heavy, your bags may not come until the next flight a week later.

The flight to Waspam leaves around 10:45 am Wednesdays. Check in is from 8:00 to 10:00. The price for a round trip ticket at the moment is $160.00. PLEASE NOTE!!! They only fly on Wednesdays.

The return flight leaves Waspam at about 12:30 PM. The flight is 1 and a half to 2 hours, depending on the weather, so keep that in mind with your other flights.

Usually the two flights (the small one and big one) don’t get close to matching up, so you will need to figure in for a motel room in Managua coming and going. The Best Western is across the hwy from the the airport and has free shuttle service. Do not attempt to walk over to the motel in the dark, or with your luggage. The number for the motel is; (505) 2255-9910 for reservations, and they speak English. If you tell them that you want shuttle service when you make reservations, and what time your flight comes in, they will be there to meet you. A room with a double bed is $92.50, which includes breakfast at 6 the next morning and they will take you back to the airport if you ask. Their web address is http://bestwestern.worldexecutive.com/locations/nicaragua/managua/4740.html .  If you are making reservation for a group, contact them in advance to get a price quote.

Another option for a motel is the Airport X Motel. They are also in a safe area. Their price varies from $45 to $50 @ night for rooms that sleep 2 or 3 people, ($5 per person for extra people) which includes a cereal breakfast. Their website is www.airportxmanagua.com Their email is airportxmanagua@gmail.com  The number is 505-2225-4430 and they speak some English. There is a $5 charge to pick you up at the airport.

The cost for fuel to make the the river trips from Waspam to KrinKrin is $575.00 dollars for your group’s round trip, which will be divided up by the number of team members.

On the way out you will have to spend one night in Waspam.

You can stay in our rented house with us, where we stay when we go to Waspam. We ask for $10 @ person per night to help pay for the rent. Or you can stay at a small motel for $35 a night per room for 2.

Also since we operate strictly on funds given for ministering to the poor, we ask if you would consider helping with your food costs at our house with $10 @ day per person.
